Waterproof Fly Fishing Backpack and Chest Workstation
I was tasked to lead the design and development of Moonshine Rod Company’s first endeavor into soft packs and accessories. A brand known for their rods, I had to define what the soft goods design language would be and dive deep into the fly fishing enthusiast. The first product was the backpack and check workstation set. Two necessities needed to carry all the gear a fly fisherman would need for a day trip

I began by getting myself acquainted with the brand space and the Moonshine Rod Co. enthusiasts. It is a niche category and I wanted to understand where the other major players stood and how MRC was differentiated or similar to them. As the underdog, I needed to understand the appeal for someone supporting a smaller brand.
I then interviewed the founder himself on what he was looking for in his backpack and chest workstation. As an avid fly fisher himself, he had very specific details he was looking for in these two products. I then cross referenced his needs to other fishermen I interviewed and features out in the market.
These interviews helped in understanding the user and the product needs. I began a running list of interesting functional ideas that was sparked from the interviews as well as from things I was seeing from other packs outside of the fly fishing space.
